Commencement Reminders

Commencement Office

Good afternoon, Class of 2022 graduates!

We are very excited to celebrate you and your many accomplishments at Commencement. The ceremony will take place Friday, May 20, 2022, at 9 a.m. on Francis Olympic Field, rain or shine. You will also have the opportunity to be recognized at individual school ceremonies May 18-20. Be sure to check the calendar of events for a full schedule of school and affinity ceremonies.

Please read the important reminders below and share this information with your loved ones.

Registration and Regalia  Registration and regalia are required to participate. If you have not registered for the universitywide Commencement ceremony or reserved your regalia, please do so by May 6.

Career Services would like to hear from you! Take a moment to report your plans.

Graduate and Guest Arrival  Graduates must be at the assembly point designated for each school by 8:30 a.m. Please plan accordingly to allow enough time to park and walk to Mudd Field for the processional lineup.

Guests are encouraged to arrive at 8 a.m. to allow adequate travel time from campus parking areas to Francis Olympic Field. The gates to the field will open at 8 a.m.

Procession The procession will begin promptly at 9 a.m. University volunteer ambassadors will be present to assist graduates with the processional lineup.

Seating Seating will be divided into sections—graduates and guests—with graduates being placed closest to the stage on Francis Olympic Field. Guest seating will be located behind and around the area designated for graduates.

Recession The ceremony will conclude around 11 a.m. All graduates will recess from Francis Olympic Field under the direction of Chancellor Martin. Graduates should arrange to meet friends and relatives at one of the festival activity locations across campus to alleviate crowding and ensure a quick exit from the ceremony.

Festival  The university will host an all-school Commencement festival immediately following the universitywide ceremony. The celebration, which includes popular local food and beverage, games, photo opportunities, and live entertainment, will stretch from Mudd Field to Tisch Park. The festival will conclude at 1 p.m.

Photography and Video Out of consideration for others, please keep the front of the stage and pathways clear during the ceremony. Graduates and guests are encouraged to utilize the photography areas located across campus following the ceremony.

University photos of Commencement will be posted on Widen and YouTube.

Parking Visitors may park in the following university parking garages: the East End (201), Millbrook, and Snow Way (202,204).

Guests are strongly encouraged to take a hotel shuttle, taxi, or ride-sharing service. Shuttles, Uber, Lyft, and taxi drivers may drop off guests in the lot south of Simon Hall (168). This lot is only accessible via Forsyth and Olympian Way. A secondary drop-off location will be directly in the designated pickup/drop-off area on the south side of Mallinckrodt (150).

If dropping off guests with accessibility needs, please enter the lot in front of Simon Hall (168) from Olympian Way and Forsyth. Proceed to the drop-off point and volunteers will be there to assist you.

Accessible parking is available to those displaying a state-issued accessible placard or license plate in the Danforth University Center Garage (DUC) (200).  Accessible parking in the DUC Garage may only be accessed via Forsyth and Olympian Way.

More information can be found on our Visiting Campus and Accessibility pages.
