2022 December Recognition Ceremony

Commencement Office

Good afternoon,  We hope you are as excited as we are that the December 10 Recognition Ceremony is quickly approaching. We are thrilled to celebrate with each of you and wanted to share that a record number of graduates are planning to attend. We ask that you please make every effort to attend this special occasion, as we have accounted for you. Be sure to share this important information with your guests.

Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022

10:00 a.m.     December Recognition Ceremony

Graduate Regalia is required to participate. You may pick up regalia in Umrath Lounge on Dec. 8 and 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Late pickup will be available on Saturday, Dec. 10 in Umrath Lounge from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. After 10:30 a.m., it will be available for pickup in the campus bookstore. Please return regalia to the campus bookstore after your ceremony.

Check-in for graduates will take place inside the Sumers Recreation Center. We ask that all graduates arrive by 8:45 a.m. to pick up their name card and line up at the assembly point. Please come dressed in regalia and have your student ID or other form of identification ready. All valuable items, such as backpacks and handbags should remain with your guests or at home. University volunteer ambassadors will be on-site to assist with check-in and processional lineup.

Guests will enter through the Athletics Complex lobby, which is north of Sumers Recreation Center. University volunteer ambassadors will be ready to assist with seating.

Parking is available in the Snow Way parking garage and the Danforth University Center (DUC) underground parking garage. You may find an interactive Danforth campus map here.

Accessibility drop-off will be available on the surface lot east of the Athletics Complex. This lot will be reserved for those in need of accessible parking—you must have an accessible placard to park in this lot. Golf carts will be available and running an interior loop for those who need assistance.

A Livestream of the December Recognition Ceremony will be available on the Commencement website. A recording will be posted to the website at a later date.

Graduation gifts are available online. This year we are partnering with Bear Necessities, the non-profit store on campus affiliated with the Women’s Society of Washington University. Bouquets and other gifts are available for pre-ordering through their website, and will be available for pick-up at the event location. The deadline for pre-orders was Nov. 20, 2022. However, Bear Necessities will have a small number of extra bouquets and gifts available for purchase before and after the ceremony.

Photography will be provided by GradImages. Individual pictures of graduates will be taken as they cross the stage, in addition to a quick portrait after they exit the stage. Images will be available for purchase after the ceremony. Graduates who pre-register for photos will save 20% off their purchase of $50 or more.

Additional ceremony details may be found on our website and visiting campus page.

If your plans have changed and you are no longer attending, please let us know as soon as possible.

Thank you for taking the time to read the important items listed above. We look forward to celebrating each of you and all of your incredible accomplishments.
