Regalia
The Washington University Commencement Gown
Degree candidates from Washington University in St. Louis wear a distinctive commencement gown. The gown is green with black velvet trim and with an embroidered University shield on both sleeves at the shoulder.
For graduate students and faculty, black velvet tams replace the traditional mortarboard. The gown design received rave reviews from the University community when Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton, Grand Marshal Edward N. Wilson, and the Board of Trustees donned the redesigned gowns for the May 2003 Commencement ceremonies.
Regalia are rented through the bookstore associated with the graduating student's campus, either the Danforth Campus Bookstore or the Medical Campus Bookstore. Please consult the student regalia or faculty and staff regalia information or contact the appropriate bookstore for information on reserving your rental regalia for Commencement.
